Distracted Driving

So, I've been spending a lot of time in the last few weeks speaking to high school students about distracted driving....drinking, drugs, texting, cell phones, ipods, speeding, extra passengers, no seatbelts....all those kinds of things. Since it is prom and graduation time, schools are really trying to reinforce that message. What's going on in your town with this issue? Does your squad do a Project Crash or something like that? I'd be really happy if I never had to respond to another fatal or near fatal crash caused by someone's distracted behavior. Or if I never had to hold another parents hand while they see their child in an ICU bed for the first (or last) time.

This time of year, there are so many more cars in the shore area, and so many of the drivers are reckless and distracted. It isn't just the younger drivers, either. I'm really not sure how to get through to them. They sure keep us busy!
